Dmitrij Ščuka, Chairman of EVRAZ Vítkovice Steel presented a donation to the Municipal Hospital in Ostrava collected from the proceeds of an ice hockey wager

Dmitrij Ščuka, Chairman of EVRAZ Vítkovice Steel officially presented a phototherapy lamp for treatment of neonatal jaundice to the children’s ward of the Municipal Hospital in Ostrava (MNO). Dr. Tomáš Nykel, Director of MNO accepted the donation in the amount of CZK 60,000, which comes from the ice hockey wager made in October of last year between representatives of EVRAZ Vítkovice Steel, a.s. and TŘINECKÉ ŽELEZÁRNY, a.s. They entered into a friendly wager on which of their sponsored hockey clubs were going to score the first goal during their first joint match. Each side made a wager of thirty thousand crowns, and since  HC Vítkovice Steel won the money went to Ostrava.

"Although the way we obtained the donation for the Municipal Hospital was a bit unconventional, we are glad that it will benefit such a place. Just who won was not the most important thing in the wager with our Třinec colleagues, but the effort to help a good cause. Just like last year, in addition to support Vítkovice ice-hockey team, we wanted to do something more for others." says Dmitrij Ščuka, Chairman of EVRAZ Vítkovice Steel.

Last year, the subject of a similar bet between representatives of the general partners of both teams was regarding which team was ahead after completion of the first round of the extra-league. The final sum of 60,000 CZK was sent to four different kindergartens in the Třinec region to purchase polytechnic construction kits, which would help stimulate the technical imagination of children, as well as improve their motor skills.
