Evraz Charity Fund helps to improve the children’s hospital care

Ostrava May 5, 2010 Today, the Children‘s Neurology Clinic of the University Hospital Ostrava experienced the ceremonial handing over of sonographic machine for monitoring children's brain structures. The sonographic machine in the amount of 1.5 million CZK, purchased by the Evraz Charity Fund, will help all the patients in children's age from the Moravian-Silesian region. This project is the biggest project supported by the Evraz Charity Fund this year when 39 projects in the amount of 8.9 million CZK which help handicapped children and young people suffering mainly from cerebral palsy, were selected for the funding.

Ing. Z. Kvapík, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Evraz Charity Fund, handed over the technical documentation to MUDr. Marie Kunčíková, Head of Children‘s Neurology Clinic of the University Hospital Ostrava. New sonographic machine will serve for the care of children with cerebral palsy from their earliest ages and offers opportunities to monitor their development on a regular basis, assesses the results of treatment of pathological conditions resulting from difficult pregnancies, including premature babies until their childhood and adolescence. Approx. 300 children will benefit from this new machine per year.  The first child to be examined with this new machined was .... (name of the child) from ... (the city).

Among 39 projects supported by Evraz Charity Fund is for example a new sports facility for physically handicapped children in Odborný léčebný ústav Metylovice which will be opened next month or purchase of special SUPER TALKER and BIGmac communication aids for the education and support of self - reliance of handicapped children in Ostrava city hospital.

Evraz Charity Fund was established in 2006 with the purpose of supporting the long-term development of the Moravian Silesian Region, with the emphasis on the areas of social life, culture, science, education, sports and business environment. Evraz Charity Fund was founded by EVRAZ VÍTKOVICE STEEL, a.s. This year Evraz Charity Fund has been concentrating especially on projects helping handicapped children, especially those suffering from cerebral palsy.
