EVRAZ VITKOVICE STEEL employees help in Metylovice Special Care Institute

Ostrava August 31, 2010 Employees of EVRAZ VITKOVICE STEEL (EVS) helped out at the volunteer day at the Special Healthcare Institute in Metylovice. EVS's first volunteer event gave employees the chance to lend a helping hand to a project for ill and handicapped children. They did painting and landscaping work, moved furniture, and cleaned up before the start of the new school year. The volunteers helped to renovate teaching and relaxation areas for children, and also cultivated an area for an outdoor sports ground.

The institute in Metylovice, in the Moravian-Silesian region, which provides care for children with special needs and different handicaps, is one of the biggest of its kind in the Czech Republic. Renovating its premises and purchasing new equipment are necessities for the institute, and it has found itself short of the funds it needs. "The help of EVS is much appreciated and we are very grateful for it," says Dr. Radim Dudek, the director of the Metylovice institute.

The venue for the first volunteer day was not chosen by accident - in June, the Evraz Charity Fund, established by EVS, presented the Metylovice institute with a new sports centre for special needs children. The multipurpose ground, with special surfaces for various sports, will serve more than 850 children per year and it can also be used by children in wheelchairs. EVS employees were thus providing further help on premises financed by the Evraz Charity Fund.

"We're very glad we can help and I personally was happy to see that our employees wanted to muck in themselves," says Zbynek Kvapik, CEO of EVS. Volunteer days at EVS will be repeated in the future.
