MONEY FROM EVRAZ CHARITY FUND ALREADY HELPS CHILDREN

Ostrava 26th February 2010 – The Blood Centre of the University Hospital Ostrava and the Kindergarten in Zelená Street, Ostrava

Ostrava 26th February 2010 - The Blood Centre of the University Hospital Ostrava and the Kindergarten in Zelená Street, Ostrava - Mariánské Hory are the first to use the donation of several hundreds of thousands of Czech Crowns given by Evraz Charity Fund. The money has already been given to those in need: children.

The Blood Centre of the UH Ostrava has used the finance from Evraz Charity Fund to purchase a new plasma defroster. Unlike the rather outdated apparatus which enabled the staff of this specialised department to defreeze no more than one bag of frozen plasma at a time, the new defroster is capable of thawing up five such bags, along with monitoring and maintaining the temperature of the medium. "Since we bought this device, we can much faster meet the needs of patients especially from the Children's Department and the Neonatology Department of the University Hospital Ostrava," adds Head Physician MUDr. Zuzana Čermáková, Ph.D.

The Kindergarten in Zelená Street has used the donation to buy new playing features for its garden along with computers to equip all the classrooms, complete with software suitable also for the youngest children. In addition, they have bought playful and functional furniture. "The kindergarten was opened in the 1980s, and it has been hardly mended or innovated ever since. Moreover, we were flooded out last year, so the support of Evraz Charity Fund was very helpful," says Iva Staňková, Headmistress, Kindergarten in Zelená Street.

Evraz Charity Fund was established in 2006 with the purpose of supporting the long-term development of the Moravian Silesian Region, with the emphasis on the areas of social life, culture, science, education, sports and business environment. Evraz Charity Fund was founded by EVRAZ VÍTKOVICE STEEL, a.s. "Evraz Charity Fund has been concentrating especially on diseased or handicapped children to support them in recent years. The blood plasma defroster and the equipment of the Kindergarten in Zelená Street are the first projects to have been carried out with the help of Evraz Charity Fund this year," says Zbyněk Kvapík, MBA, Chairman of the Board of Evraz Charity Fund. "We are really pleased to support such projects and this support is in line with the corporate strategy of the entire Evraz Group."
