Representatives of the main partners of the Moravian-Silesian playoff hockey clubs wager on the outcome

Representatives of EVRAZ VÍTKOVICE STEEL and Třinecké železárny placed a bet on which of their teams will rank higher after the opening round of the playoff. The wager was agreed upon during the steelproducer derby at a game between HC VÍTKOVICE STEEL and HC Oceláři Třinec on Sunday, December 9th, 2012, in Ostrava‘s ČEZ Aréna. Each party staked 30,000 CZK. The winner will take the prize money of 60,000 CZK and put it towards a selected regional charity project.

Jan Czudek, CEO of Třinecké železárny and Dmitrij Ščuka, chairman of the EVRAZ VÍTKOVICE STEEL board, confirmed the stakes with a handshake in front of almost 5,000 thousand people at the beginning of a match between HC VÍTKOVICE STEEL and HC Oceláři Třinec on December 9th in Ostrava. The party to have bet on the team that ranks higher in the playoff will become the winner. So far, the Třinec team has a slender lead: HC Oceláři Třinec currently rank 4th, while HC VÍTKOVICE STEEL rank 8th .

Other than the stakes of 60,000 CZK, the representatives have also declared the names of the organizations to which they wish to donate the prize money.  If HC Oceláři Třinec win, the money will go towards a polytechnic building set for four kindergartens in the region, two in Třinec, one in Bystřice and one in Jablunkov. In case of HC VÍTKOVICE STEEL’s victory, the kindergarten on Zelená street can look forward to a new LEGO building set for each of its classrooms. Both contingencies represent an effort help develop the children’s technical imaginations and to improve their motor skills. In addition, select players of both hockey teams will work part of a regular shift at an organization yet to be chosen by the winner.

“A wager is a new opportunity to support and impel teams, which we also support financially. The sweet perk, then, is the ability to somehow contribute to the region. With this in mind, I chose to help kindergartens by providing them with polytechnic building sets, which should inspire interest in technology and engineering-related subjects in a playful way. With respect to our hockey players, I fully trust them and am convinced that we will win,” says Ing. Jan Czudek, CEO of Třinecké železárny.

“We believe in our team,” says Dmitrij Ščuka, chairman of the board of EVRAZ VÍTKOVICE STEEL, “but we are convinced that in this case, the winner will simply be the effort to support a good cause and to help children’s development, as well as their relationship to technology. We use our Evraz Charity Fund as a means of carrying out all the help in the Moravian-Silesian Region. With this wager, we wanted to make an extra step and point to the need for technical education from a child’s early years on.”
