SEA GIANT MADE OF CZECH STEEL LAUNCHED

Ostrava, 08.01.2009. A Finnish ship manufacturer STX Europe launched the largest cruiser in the world Oasis of the Seas. On water, the ship will be finished by the end of 2009 and first passangers will board the ship on 12th December 2009. This is the first ship of the sister duo of Oasis class. The ships are 361 metres long, which equals five Boeing 747 Jumbo planes lined one afer the other or two Pendolino train units. For construction of these ships, the sheets were supplied by a Czech company EVRAZ VÍTKOVICE STEEL.

Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Seas are going to become sailing steel islands – their 15 decks can carry up to 6.300 passengers, who will be taken care of by 3.000 crew members, all together an incredible number of 9.300 people – which is approximately the same as the population of Mohelnice. The ship resembles a floating city. There are 7 neighborhoods: Central Park with real greenery, Boardwalk with high amount of restaurants and shops, but also two huge climbing walls, King Promenade with bars, restaurants and shops, but also with a hairdresser´s, Sport zone with four spacious swimming pools and a paddling pool for children, two artificial waves, and in case of lack of sunshine you can use a solarium with a snack bar. If you become tired of travelling by this ship, there will also be a Spa ready to help you, and if you by any chance had a „submarine“ sickness, you can get rid of it in the Entertainment part in one of the music clubs, at an ice show or in the Casino Royale. Younger passengers can spend some relaxing time without their parents in the Youth zone where the program is prepared for children from 6 months of age up to seventeen years old teenagers – one of the most interesting is for example a theatre club or laboratory for children, but also a spa and a disco. By the way, all together the Royal Caribbean company, who the ships are being made for, offer 37 categories of accommodation.

For the construction of the ship there will be needed approximately 525.000 m2 of steel. „According to the contract with Finnish shipyards we delivered, particularly for the construction of Oasis of the Seas, 9.907 tons of plates“, said the chairman of the board of directors Ing. Vladimír Bail, Ph. D. „The plates are being used especially for the construction of the hull and keel. They are transported to Finland first by train to Polish Szczecin and then by ship over the sea to the Finnish port of Turku. The maximal size of plate is 3x16 m“, adds Vladimír Bail. The first cruise will start in Fort Lauderdale, Florida not earlier than December, anyway you can reserve your place on the deck of this sea giant right now. And believe it or not, you can buy a w week on the ship for a price starting at 14.000 CZK. Bon Voyage!
