Thanks to the Evraz Charity Fund, children from the Ostrava region can go for curative stays

Symbolically, on June 1, 2012, which is the Children’s Day, the first group of twenty school children from the Ostrava-Mariánské Hory and Hulváky city district will go for curative stays in the Specialized Medical Center in Metylovice in Beskydy. The 28-day-long curative event was initiated by the Evraz Charity Fund (ECF) and the entire project was prepared in cooperation with the leadership of the Ostrava-Mariánské Hory and Hulváky city district, the Elementary School Gen. Janka and the Specialized Medical Center in Metylovice. The school identified frequently sick children and informed their parents on the possibility that the children can go for this curative stay. Then the parents in cooperation with pediatricians asked for recommendation for the stay for the sick children based on an indication list with a significant support of insurance companies that pay the treatment from public health insurance. The remaining necessary costs of almost CZK 3,000 for each child and the costs for transport of the children to the sanatorium and back were paid by the Evraz Charity Fund. “Another two curative stays and several courses of school stays in the mountains are being prepared and these should take place by the end of 2012 with a financial contribution of ECF in an amount of CZK 1 million. Right now we are doing our best to ensure that more than 250 children can follow their friends to the mountains in the autumn,” said the ECF Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dmitrij Scuka. “I welcome the initiative of the EVRAZ Group.”I am convinced that it supplements the Ostrava city activities in the area of the Fund for Children Endangered by Air Pollution,” said the Deputy Mayor of the city of Ostrava, Dalibor Madej.

The main part of the stay of the children in the Metylovice sanatorium consists of a curative regime based on the specific diagnosis of each child but the children will not be neglecting their school activities and entertainment either because the sanatorium includes an elementary school, an indoor swimming pool and a playground that also was built with the help of the ECF resources. This project is a part of a long-term support of the Moravian-Silesian Region by EVRAZ VÍTKOVICE STEEL through the Evraz Charity Fund that was established for this purpose.
