THE BIGGEST PASSENGER SHIP IN THE WORLD WITH KEEL FROM EVRAZ VITKOVICE STEEL HAS SET SAIL

Independence of the Seas, currently one of the three biggest passenger ships in the world, set sail on its maiden voyage on May 12 from the English port of Southampton. EVRAZ VITKOVICE STEEL, a.s. supplied more than 6 000 tons of ship-building plates. Independence of the Seas is the third vessel within the "Freedom" series.

EVRAZ VITKOVICE STEEL supplied plates mainly for building of the most strained places of the bottom below the water mark. „We have supplied 6 042 tons of plates for the building of Independence of the Seas, which equals to about a quarter of plates necessary in total to build the vessel. This supply is  part of the execution of a general contract to supply 27 000 tons, which was concluded for the period 07/2006 - 12/2007," Ing. Vladimír Bail, Ph.D., CEO of EVRAZ VITKOVICE STEEL informs.

Freedom of the Seas, Liberty of the Seas and Independence of the Seas are currently the biggest passenger ships in the world. The ships are 339 m long, 39 m wide. The tonnage of the vessels is 154 000 tons and each of them can accommodate 5 000 people on board of which 1 400 are crewmembers. They have 18 decks of which two are the so called H2O Zone, with a waterpark, current pool, baby pool and a flowrider - altogether about 530 tons of water flows there. The waste waters are purified in state-of-the-art water purification plants and are practically turned into drinking water. All waste is dried and landed in ports, only purified water is released into the sea.

In the future the biggest passenger ships are going to be vessels of the "Genesis" series. The ships will be 360 m long, 47 m wide, with tonnage of  220 000 tons and altogether they will accommodate 8 400 passengers. EVRAZ VITKOVICE STEEL is going to supply plates for building these ships as well.
