THE MOST MODERN DUST-REMOVAL TECHNOLOGY IN OSTRAVA

Ostrava, February 2, 2009 EVRAZ VÍTKOVICE STEEL delivered a project documentation of ”Secondary dust-removal of NS 220 steel plant“ within the application of integrated permission for Steel plant I. to the Regional Authority in Ostrava. It fulfilled a condition which the representatives of the company and the Regional Office agreed upon on 26.11.2008 and which is part of the application of change of integrated permit. The project documentation counts with the installation of a new dust-removal of flue gases technology supplied by Siemens at a total investment cost exceeding CZK 500 million. By installing this technology, there will be a significant decrease in solid pollutants which will have a positive effect on improving the situation of the surrounding environment. The company has committed to realise these steps within two years from the legal acquisition of the building licence.

The integrated permit for the operation of Steel plant I of EVRAZ VÍTKOVICE STEEL enabling and setting conditions of operation acquired legal acquisition in January 2006. On 16 Jan 2009, after dealing with representatives of the Regional Authority, the company applied for a change of this permit regarding the initiation of its own realisation of dust-removal of steel plant smelting units. The change sets stricter emission limits of solid pollutants than stated by the original integrated permit, i.e. a decrease from 50mg/m3 (limits set by law) to 20 mg/m3 – a decrease of 60%. To fulfil this limit, the company will realise a new system of secondary dust-removal of flue gases of smelting steel plant units including the reconstruction of the peripheral and roof casing of the hall, which will prevent the leak of fugitive emissions of solid pollutants from the steel plant hall. The present primary wet gas cleaning will be supplemented by a brand new technology. ”We have agreed with Siemens that they will supply the dust-removal technology which is the best available technology (BAT) in the field. The total cost will exceed CZK 500 million,“ the Chairman of the Board and General Manager of EVRAZ VÍTKOVICE STEEL, Mr. Vladimir Bail, PH.D. stated. “We already passed this investment in 2006,“ he added.

By applying for the change of integrated permit, the company commits to complete the construction of the secondary dust-removal of the converter hall within two years from the acquisition of the building licence. A significant part of the documentation is also the assignment of duties of regular cleaning of communications and areas according to the map base which is a supplement of the integrated permit.

„Measures against activity impacts of our company on the environment have always been a priority for us and we have always fulfilled norms set by the state. I believe that this 500-million-Crown investment with a very positive effect on the environment will be welcomed by the citizens of Ostrava,“ Mr. Vladimir Bail, Ph.D., Chairman of the Board and General Manager of EVRAZ VÍTKOVICE STEEL said.
