Handicapped children visit hockey practice for the second time this season

For the second time this season, a group of handicapped children were able to meet with the players of HC VÍTKOVICE STEEL at the club’s practice for the play-offs. Both the children and their guardians were immersed in watching the players practice, after which the children had some fun with several clowns and Vítek the Knight. The event was put together by the EVRAZ Charity Fund in cooperation with the hockey club and was designed for the children of those organizations supported by the fund. Some 21 children with teacher supervision visited the multi-purpose facility at the ČEZ Arena in Ostrava, coming from the Naděje Kindergarten and Elementary School, Frýdek-Místek, the Želvička citizens association, Ostrava-Poruba, the BES association, Ostrava-Poruba (the Ukrajinská elementary school) and the Kindergarten and Elementary School for Children with Special Needs in Nový Jičín.

“This is our third year organizing this event for the children. We are happy to see that it is met with such positive responses and that the children and their teachers travel to Ostrava even from more remote areas of the Moravian-Silesian Region, such as Bruntál or Nový Jičín. In order for the players to have enough time for all of the children, the capacity is limited to roughly 20, though the number of those actually interested in coming is about double. The event can then truly fulfill its purpose by entertaining them and getting their mind off of their difficulties, which helps improve their condition,” says Dmitrij Ščuka, Chairman of the EVRAZ Charity Fund Board of Directors.
