39 projects of non-profit organizations in Moravian Silesian region gained almost 9 million CZK

Ostrava January 6, 2010 - Representatives of non-profit organizations from the Moravian-Silesian region met with Zbynek Kvapik, chairman of the board of Evraz Charity Fund in Clarion Congress hotel in Ostrava to receive the deeds of gift in the total amount of 8.9 million CZK for projects which obtain funding from the Evraz Charity Fund.  A total of 39 projects from 34 organizations were selected for the funding, majority of projects were given 100% of the requested contribution. The Evraz Charity Fund has received 96 applications in 2009.

Evraz Charity Fund was established in 2006 by EVRAZ VÍTKOVICE STEEL with the aim to support the long-term development of the Moravian-Silesian region, especially in social affairs, culture, science and education, sports, healthcare and business environment. Institutor of  Evraz Charity Fund is EVRAZ VITKOVICE STEEL, a.s. "This year we focus at regional projects aimed at medical and educational assistance, as well as psychological support for children with various diseases," says Zbynek Kvapik, chairman of the board of Evraz Charity Fund. "As we have joined Evraz Group's project Beloved children supporting children suffering from cerebral palsy in Russia we have placed an emphasis to support projects that help handicapped children, especially those suffering from cerebral palsy here in the region. We also aim to help projects in our vicinity as it is our priority to be a responsible neighbour," adds Mr. Kvapik.

Successful selected projects cover the whole Moravian-Silesian region as can be seen from the list of cities: e.g. Krnov, Opava, Orlová, Nový Jičín, Metylovice, Třinec or Ostrava.  Financial contribution ranges from dozens of thousands CZK to hundreds of thousands of CZK. University Hospital Ostrava with the project of sonographic machine for the children‘s neurology clinic will receive 1.5 million CZK or Sports complex for physically handicapped children in Metylovice medical centre, which shall receive 800,000 CZK, are among the biggest projects supported by the Evraz Charity Fund this year.

„I would like to thank all the applicants for sending their projects to our Fund. Despite the fact that we were not able to help all of them, I believe they understand and will try and apply again next year", concluded Mr. Kvapik.
