Ostrava (Třinec) 11.4.2013 A hockey wager helped children from kindergartens in the Třinec area acquire new polytechnic building blocks worth 60.000 CZK. The stakes were to determine which of the two teams, HC Vítkovice Steel or HC Oceláři Třinec, will rank higher after the first round of the playoffs. The team supported by Třinecké železárny ranked higher than HC Vítkovice, whose general partner is EVRAZ VÍTKOVICE STEEL.
The wager was made last year in early December during a derby of the two teams in the ČEZ Arena when Jan Czudek, CEO of Třinecké železárny, and Dmitrij Ščuka, Chairman of the Board of EVRAZ VÍTKOVICE STEEL, shook hands. Each of the representative of the hockey teams‘ general partners bet 30.000 CZK, making the value of the entire wager 60.000 CZK. Together today, the two men passed a set of polytechnic building blocks purchased from the wager money on to the Jablunkov kindergartners. The next sets of building blocks will head over to two kindergartens in Třinec, one in Bystřice and one in Písek near Třinec.
“Supporting our region has been among our priorities for many years. Recently, we started focusing on the youngest of young and are trying to spark an interest in technology in them. Polytechnic building blocks are ideal for this purpose because through them, children can discover the beauty of technical subjects and develop a positive attitude towards them early on,” says Ing. Jan Czudek, CEO of Třinecké železárny.
Dmitrij Ščuka, Chairman of the Board of EVRAZ VÍTKOVICE STEEL is not disappointed with the result of the wager because the prize money went towards a good cause. “There are no losers in our bet. There are only winners – the children. Since the very beginning, the sole purpose of the wager was to help them perceive the possibilities of technology through hockey. It gives me great pleasure to see how happy the building blocks made the children and I believe that for the children, this will be a means to find an appreciation for technology and that they will continue to develop it.”
