Exhibition of children’s paintings in Ostrava City Hall

Ostrava November 2nd, 2010 Ostrava City Hall is hosting a unique exhibition of paintings by children, supported by the Evraz Charity Fund and the EVRAZ "Beloved children" programme. This special exhibition, which brings together twenty paintings by handicapped children and young people from the Czech Republic and Russia, runs until November 16th.

The paintings feature flowers, the sea, and landscapes, as well as the children's friends and parents. The artists are five Czech children and young people from two organizations supported by the Evraz Charity Fund, and two Russian girls supported by the similar Russian project "Beloved Children". Most of the paintings originated in art-therapy lessons, whose positive effects can best be seen in the case of one of the artists - 10-year-old Elena has made incredible progress in 2 years of this therapy and has even started speaking.

The foyer of exhibition hall is openMo-Fri 8am-7pm, Sat-Sun 9am-7pm.

The Evraz Charity Fund was established in 2006 by EVRAZ VITKOVICE STEEL with the aim of supporting the long-term development of the Moravian-Silesian region in the areas of social affairs, culture, science and education, sports, healthcare, and the business environment. Last year, the Fund selected 39 projects involving 34 organisations and contributed 8.9 million CZK. Organisations from all over the Moravian-Silesian region were among the successful applicants. The financial contribution ranged from dozens to hundreds of thousands of crowns and beyond. University Hospital Ostrava, for example, was given 1.5 million CZK for a sonogram machine for its children's neurology clinic, while a sports complex for physically-handicapped children (in Metylovice Medical Centre) received 800,000 CZK. This year, the fund will distribute 9 million CZK to projects and organizations helping children and young people with handicaps, especially those with cerebral palsy.
