FIREFIGHTERS WERE COMPETING IN OSTRAVA UNDER THE SPONSORSHIP OF VÍTKOVICE STEEL

VÍTKOVICE STEEL is active in supporting also sport projects which emphasize dynamism, flexibility, and professionalism. Enthusiasm, thirst for life and dedication to achieve top results – these are the attributes associated mainly with performance-focused sports, but they are symbolic also for other activities, such as The European Championship of Firefighters and Rescue Squads. And this is one of the reasons why VÍTKOVICE STEEL for three days was one of the main partners of this interesting event held in Ostrava on September 8 – 10, 2005.

The European Championship of Firefighters and Rescue Squads, which started in Ostrava on Thursday, October 8, 2005, ended on Saturday, October 10, 2005 by the last discipline – a fire attack on the premises of the Mošnov airport. The competition attracted a lot attention of visitors who connected this paramount sports event with a visit of the NATO day.

During the fire attack, the visitors could see a fascinating battle of the individual teams and the valid world record (31.60 sec.) was defeated five times during the competition only to be defeated for the sixth time and finally by the Czech representation in a wonderful time of 26:01 sec. And this meant only one thing – THE REPRESENTATION OF THE CZECH REPUBLIC BECAME THE EUROPEAN CHAMPION IN FIRE ATTACK IN 2005. And what is delightful is the fact that two members of the Czech representation team are representatives of the fire squad from our region - Karel Ryl and Milan Onderka. Overall, this meant a grand move to the top and silver medal in the team competition.
