The EVRAZ Charity Fund supports non-profit projects in the Moravian-Silesian Region

Ostrava. The Clarion Congress Hotel in Ostrava hosted a meeting of the representatives of non-profit organizations from the Moravian-Silesian Region with the leaders of the EVRAZ Charity Fund (ECF) in order to sign donation agreements to support the 32 selected projects in a summary amount of 3.7 million Czech crowns. Totally in 2012 EVRAZ will contribute, as every year, CZK 9 million into its charity activities in the Czech Republic. This year for the first time the applicants for a grant from the ECF could ask even in April and not only in October which was the case in the past. By this novelty the ECF met the current need of the organizations in the area of support of the non-profit sector.

The Board of Trustees of the Evraz Charity Fund was selecting from sixty six submitted projects that were asking for 10.6 million Czech crowns in total. The Board selected 32 projects granting 3.7 million Czech crowns in total of which 29 projects deal directly with helping handicapped children. Seven from the submitted projects came from the employees of EVRAZ VÍTKOVICE STEEL registered within the project titled “EVRAZ People Help“. A precondition for the grant was an active participation of the applicants on the implementation of the project for which they could get up to 25 000 Czech crowns. The Board allocated resources for 6 projects in an amount of 124 000 Czech crowns.

“Since its foundation the ECF has sponsored more than 180 projects from the social area, healthcare area, science and education, culture and sports worth more than 57 million crowns” said Dmitrij Scuka, the Chairman of the ECF Board of Trustees. This year the supported projects include purchasing of various compensation, rehabilitations and communication aids for children afflicted by cerebral palsy, equipment for special classrooms or a playground with equipment for handicapped children. The locations of the sponsored organizations include the entire Moravian-Silesian Region. One of the supported organizations is, for example, an Elementary Schools and Kindergarten Naděje (Hope) in Frýdek Místek whose project is focusing on creating the same conditions available to healthy children in education for schoolchildren with cerebral palsy. Dana Zemánková, the Headmistress said, “The school where we carry out our activities has 3 buildings and these buildings have more than one floor and the immobile children cannot move freely along the school like their healthy schoolmates. This is limiting their education and the possibility for better integration in the group. Our aim is to change this situation and the ECF has helped us several times already.”

This year for the first time the Evraz Charity Fund invited the applicants to send their applications for a grant twice in a year. Organizations that help handicapped children and children afflicted by cerebral palsy in the Moravian-Silesian Region could register their projects for the first time by April 30, 2012. Another call for submission of applications for grants will be organized this autumn. Together with this invitation the employees of EVRAZ VÍTKOVICE STEEL also could ask the Evraz Charity Fund for minigrants within a project titled “EVRAZ People Help“.
