VÍTKOVICE STEEL, a.s., PROSPERED FROM THE BOOM OF THE SHIP-BUILDING INDUSTRY

VÍTKOVICE STEEL, a.s., noted a record level of increase of sales up to 50% at supplies for the ship-building industry in the first three months of the year. This increase was caused mainly by increased requirements for production of ship-building plates in Hot Rolling Mills in VÍTKOVICE STEEL, a.s.

By the end of the year 2004 it is expected that production will attack a record level of 190 thousand tons of ship-building plates. The unusual boom in the ship-building industry brings record volumes of job orders and it dramatically increases utilization of capacities of companies who comply with the most stringent standards worldwide. VÍTKOVICE STEEL, a.s., has its products certified by 8 internationally recognized quality auditors. The company’s products are recognized by American Bureau of Shipping, Dutch Det Norske Veritas, German Germanisher Lloyd, Russian Maritime Shipping Register or British Lloyd’s Register. And this is the reason why VÍTKOVICE STEEL, a.s. ranks to the most prestigious global manufacturers who can supply for attractive projects in the ship-building industry and cash in for the value added by its production.

„The growing volume of the ship-building program is not limited only to the existing sales territories, but we have noted interest also on new territories where we have not been supplying so far. A very important positive message for us are the requirements of our customers to reserve our production capacities for the 3rd and 4th quarter of 2004, but also for 2005,” informs Ludvík Strakoš, Product Manager for the Plates product group. “But the positive forecasts do not change anything on our business strategy, i.e., to study each enquiry and requirement from the customer very carefully, including price calculations that include protection against price leaps,” added Strakoš. “Presently we are working on projects for Polish ship-yards in Gdynia and in Pula and Rijeka in Croatia.”
