VÍTKOVICE STEEL Charity Fund will support non-profit organizations in the Moravian-Silesian Region in 2015 in the amount of 6.7 million CZK

Representatives of non-profit organizations and private persons from the Moravian-Silesian Region gathered December 16, 2014 in the Ostrava MERCURE Hotel with the management of the VÍTKOVICE STEEL Charity Fund (VSCF) to sign donation agreements to fund their projects. Based on the VSCF call 160 applications were filed, of which the Fund Board of Directors selected 24 projects to receive a total of 6.2 million CZK. A total of 6.7 million crowns were divided into 36 projects together with twelve Employee Projects amounting to 474,000 crowns to provide support in the Moravian-Silesian Region.

Unlike former activities focused on health care, sports and social needs, VSCF expanded its support for projects related to the care of the elderly, and science and research this year. The fund continues to support organizations that focus their activities on patients with cerebral palsy. Successful applicants come from different communities across the Moravian-Silesian Region such as Ostrava, Havířov, Orlová, Hlučín, Kravaře, Kopřivnice, etc. The scope of assistance is quite broad in supported organizations, including projects such as to enhance newborn care using a mobile incubator for Ostrava Municipal Hospital, playground for the elderly in Havířov, support for research on the influence of heavy metal ions on human health carried out by the University of Ostrava, or the  "Butterfly meadows" project in Ostrava ZOO.

The VSCF Chairman of the Board, Dmitrij Ščuka, said: "Originally we set aside 6 million crowns for this year to support projects, however the quantity and quality of these projects have convinced us to release another million crowns for non-profit organizations in the Moravian-Silesian Region."

For the third time in its history, VSCF donated money for the projects within the programme "People of Steel Help", which were nominated by the employees of the Fund founder, VÍTKOVICE STEEL, a.s. The condition was the active participation of the applicant-employee in the project implementation. The submitted applications in the amount of up to 50,000 CZK were first assessed by the Advisory Committee, composed of employees of the company, which subsequently recommended to the VSCF Board of Directors, whether or not to support selected projects. Hana Hoblíková, the VSCF Board member, who is currently HR Director at VÍTKOVICE STEEL, a.s. said: "We are happy that there are employees among us who take their free time to help others."

Twelve Employee Projects received together 474 thousand CZK this year and mainly focused on support to child sport and leisure time activities.
